Public Sector

ISTAT

Overview

ISTAT is the national authority responsible for the production and dissemination of official statistics in Italy, supporting informed decision-making for citizens, institutions, and policymakers. As a leading implementer of the SDMX (Statistical Data and Metadata Exchange) standard, ISTAT has adopted a corporate SDMX strategy to modernize statistical processes, improve data quality, and enhance dissemination. Through the development of the open-source SDMX ISTAT Toolkit, the Institute provides innovative, interoperable solutions for the automation and standardization of statistical workflows.

ISTAT plays an active role in promoting SDMX both nationally—by supporting the Italian National Statistical System—and internationally, particularly through its participation in EU-funded Twinning projects. These capacity-building initiatives facilitate knowledge transfer and the adoption of SDMX across partner countries, advancing statistical harmonization and integration with European and international frameworks. With a focus on modernization, data engineering, and open data principles, ISTAT continues to drive innovation in the global statistical community.

Exhibition theme

Empowering Statistical Modernization: Istat’s Comprehensive SDMX Solutions for Data Management, Dissemination, and Capacity Building

Istat offers a comprehensive SDMX package designed to accelerate SDMX implementation across statistical organizations. At the core is the SDMX Istat Toolkit—a free, open-source platform that simplifies the adoption of SDMX for data management, dissemination, and reporting. By hiding technical complexities, the Toolkit allows users to focus on statistical processes through intuitive interfaces and guided workflows. It is central to Istat’s capacity-building initiatives, where it supports practical, hands-on training. Through this integrated approach, Istat empowers institutions to modernize their statistical systems and align with international standards more effectively and efficiently.

The combination of over 1,500 employees with a strong scientific background and many years of practical experience enables us to provide tailor-made, efficient, and reliable solutions for more than five hundred clients from every sector of the economy. The implementation and application of classic and forward-looking methodologies and algorithms is deeply rooted in our DNA. Data collection, processing and analysis is becoming increasingly important, and we have assisted with this development for decades. Our hands-on experience in dealing with structured and unstructured data covers the whole data science spectrum – from classical linear regression through to innovative AI methods. State-of-the-art IT architectures successfully integrate bespoke solutions and standard software. We assist with architecture design and the implementation of specialized systems. Our strengths include agile proprietary development of future-proof solutions using the latest technologies. d-fine has significantly contributed to several high-impact projects, enhancing transparency, efficiency, and supervisory capabilities.

Exhibition Theme

For a Data Portal, we developed a dashboard designed for interactivity and clarity, transforming complex datasets into visually engaging displays. Another project introduces text-to-SQL technology to the portal. Another example is a Liquidity Stress Test platform, functioning on demand at every reporting date without the need of any additional information, enhancing statistical accuracy with configurable ETL processes. We developed an AI-based Supervisory Tool using NLP, Random Forests, Google News API, and pre-trained models to analyze financial documents, scan news globally, and assess shared risks. d-fine crafted an IT solution for data visualization and analysis, supporting all supervisory processes. That ranged from architecture and technical management to modern full-stack development and pipelines. One output is a solution for taxonomy- and version-independent visualizing and analyzing statistical XBRL reports, providing frequency-adjustable time-series analysis. Finally, we conducted statistical modeling of client behaviors in executing options embedded in financial products, applying classical methods and advanced ML techniques, addressing liquidity and interest rate risk.

JAL, MGA, AXENIT Consortium

Overview

A consortium of three companies:
JAL Technology - a private Omani-owned company from Muscat, founded in 2008, specializing in geospatial services and solutions and geodata management.

MGA - a software development company from Poland, founded in 1993, specializing in creating, implementing and maintaining ERP systems and providing integration services.

AXENIT - a European software development company specializing in web and mobile applications development as well as geospatial technologies.

The consortium developed and implemented MARSA system, which is an end-to-end solution for managing statistical data according to SDMX standard. The system covers comprehensive business processes, from data collection, through analysis and transformation, to dissemination. MARSA includes modules for managing statistical indicators, variables, and strategies. The central part of the system is Fusion Registry. Through a custom ETL tool, the system enables collecting the data from different sources and automatic data migration. There is a possibility to visualise data with the use of Tableau and Apache Superset. MARSA is complemented by a Data Portal and a Mobile Application (GCC Statistics).

Exhibition Theme

We would like to focus on our main product, MARSA system for managing statistical data according to SDMX standard. This is a custom software that was designed, developed, and implemented specially for statisticians. MARSA is complemented with a Mobile Application, which was launched in November 2024.

However, as our companies specialise in different IT areas, we would like to shortly present also our other products to provide a broad perspective of our offer.

The exhibition space will allow the CASD and Making Sense to present their activities in more detail, with a focus on those which relate the more closely to the themes of the conference: SDMX, VTL, interoperability with DDI, etc. A special emphasis will be made on the Trevas VTL engine and the CASD VTL Desktop. Concrete use cases and hands-on demonstrations will be shown, and visitors will be offered the possibility to experiment on their own use cases.

Making Sense

Overview

Making Sense specializes in the field of knowledge representation and organization, and more specifically in the modeling and governance of data and metadata from a perspective of interoperability, standardization and reuse. Making Sense provides various services around metadata standards, in particular DDI, SDMX and VTL, or W3C metadata vocabularies. We are involved in all phases of the data life cycle (acquisition, transformation, production, publication, etc.) and all stages of engineering projects: design, production, support, training. We also develop different open source software tools, in particular the Trevas VTL engine.

Meaningful Data

Overview

Our mantra is: “Simplifying regulatory reporting and official statistics.” Our mission is to transform data processes from logistical burdens into fast, user-friendly experiences. We believe great products are built on simplification — and true simplification begins with standardization. That’s why we champion SDMX and VTL: they’re not just technical standards, but enablers of transparency and interoperability. We embed them at the core of our solutions to help organizations streamline reporting and unlock the full value of their data. We develop open-source solutions (pysdmx, vtlengine) and products (VTL Suite).

Exhibition Theme

VTL + SDMX: a match made in Rome.

This year we will explore the journey of integration. VTL and SDMX are complementary standards and first-class passengers inside Meaningful Data’s products. Our team will show you how to build high quality data pipelines using open standards and a user-friendly process.

Sease

Overview

Sease mission is to make research in Information Retrieval more accessible to an industry audience, transforming the best research principles, ideas, and implementations from academia into real-world products.

The focus of the company is to provide R&D project guidance and implementation, search consulting services, training, and search solutions using open-source software (mostly Apache Lucene/Solr, OpenSearch, and Elasticsearch).

We are quite active in the open-source and scientific community, sharing our research and insights on our public blog, presenting at international conferences, and supporting directly open-source projects with technical designs, code contributions, and helping users. We have been working with many organizations that have adopted the SDMX standard in the last few years helping them to integrate Artificial Intelligence and best practices into their statistical search systems to leverage Large Language Models to support natural language queries and offer better data exploration.

Exhibition Theme

The theme of our exhibition space would be “AI applied to SDMX-compliant statistical search systems through open-source software”.

We’ll offer insight into the capabilities of modern open-source search engines including the latest trends and advanced AI integrations we’ve been working on.

We’ll also cover our catalog of services: the training, consulting, and development projects we offer to corporations in the statistical domain to better structure and explore their data through advanced natural language support and result relevance.
